Spring, Maymester, Summer 2020 Grading Policy
Grade-Request Options for Students – S/U
2020 Spring, Maymester, and Summer Terms
Since the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted academics this spring, the Provost approved additional options for UIW students to request Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading in most courses, and extended the deadline for students to drop a course with a “W”.
Students have until May 18, 2020 to request to drop any individual course/withdrawal from all courses (with a “W”) in the Spring Extended or Spring II Terms.
Students may request an S/U up to 18 months after the course is completed.
The processes for making those requests are described in the Student FAQ page.
"S" Definitions in Undergraduate Courses
Consistent with the Undergraduate Bulletin, a Satisfactory “S” will, by default, correspond to a C or higher, in:
- A course needed to fulfill the major, concentration, specialization, minor, teaching field and additional support work required by the major;
- Core Curriculum courses that are required for a program (not all programs require specific Core selections);
- ENGL 1311, ENGL 1311L and ENGL 1312, regardless of the program.
A Satisfactory “S” will, by default, correspond to a D- or higher in:
- Elective courses;
- Core courses that are not specified to fulfill program requirements.
"S" Definitions in Graduate Courses
Professional schools will follow the guidelines of their respective accrediting bodies.
Otherwise, consistent with the Graduate Bulletin, the Satisfactory “S” will, by default, correspond to a letter grade of B- or better.
The S/U or W grade options above apply to specific UIW courses. Please see the list below, by academic school, for information on policy and exceptions for each school/program.
NOTE: the MBS exception was updated May 29th to reflect that "S" = "C or better" for that program.
