Meet the Mission 2014
Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the ninth annual Meet the Mission day of service on Friday, Sept. 19, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 pm.Meet-up for the day of service will be in the Marian Hall Ballroom; during the event, faculty and staff will lead groups of UIW students out into the city to volunteer with local organizations that serve the greater SA community. Spaghetti Feed
Organized by the UIW American Pharmacist Association - Student organization, the UIW community is invited to attend Spaghetti Feed on Friday, Sept. 19, 6-9 p.m. in the ICC conference room. Admission to the dinner is $10 and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event will benefit the student organization's costs associated with activities including student conferences, free health fairs, local counseling competitions and patient care projects for the community. Concert at The Cove
The UIW Cardinal Jazz Band will perform their first Fall concert at The Cove restaurant on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 8-10 p.m. The performance will include original compositions and arrangements by first tenor saxophonist, former member of the Gerald Wilson Big Band and USAF's “Airman of Note” Roger Hogan. Creating Effective Group Writing Assignments
Designing effective group writing assignments may be demanding but rewarding when executed successfully; the Center for Teaching & Learning will host a session describing ways to encourage meaningful interactions within groups and holding students accountable for their own contributions on Friday, Sept. 19, noon-1 p.m. in Administration Building Room 212. Art & Musical Festival Auditions
The Arts & Music Festival is an annual celebration of the artistic side of the UIW community, sponsored by the Honors Program and the UIW Chorale. Auditions are being held for performers who would like to be considered for the Arts & Music Festival on Thursday, Oct. 23. Auditions will be on Monday, Sept. 22, 5-9 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 26, 5-9 p.m in Mabee Library Auditorium. Poets for the poetry slam are asked to submit their work to Harriet Stares at stares@student.uiwtx.edu by Wednesday, Oct. 1. Donations in the form of 2-D, 3-D and wearable art for the gallery are being accepted throughout Oct. Proceeds from art sales will go to the new Fine Arts Building. Did you ever feel confused when calling your international students' names? Join the Institute of World Cultures as they host a discussion on discovering foreign names on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 6-8 p.m. in ICC conference hall. Printing Services Closures
Printing Services will be undergoing equipment changes the week of Sep. 22 which will result in some temporary closures. Walk-up color printing services will not be available Monday, Sep. 22 through Wednesday, Sep. 24. Also, the Copy Center will be unavailable for a short duration on Tuesday, Sep. 23. Always keep in mind that the remote department copiers are available for use 24 hours a day for your copying needs. EAP present at 10th Annual CTC Transfer Event
Dean Vince Porter and Dr. Cyndi Porter joined Ft. Hood/Killeen Director of Operations Fernando Rodriguez Ramos at the 10th Annual CTC Transfer Event at Ft. Hood. Five hundred students were seeking representatives from a Bachelor's granting institution to evaluate their credit in order to move from CTC to the new school. The event was invitation-only, restricted to programs that hold a valid transfer articulation agreement with CTC.

Summer 2014 Immersion Trips Presentation
Women's Global Connection will host its annual presentation of its volunteers' experiences from the latest summer immersion trips on Monday, Sept. 22, 4-5:30 p.m. in the Incarnate Word Village Assembly Room. Dr. Neeta Singh from the Nutrition Department will present an update on Tanzania; Dr. Alison Whittemore from the Engineering Department and Ada Garza Cordova, Incarnate Word Missionary in Peru will present on Peru. 2014 Sr. Charles Marie Frank Lecture: Influencing Diversity in Nursing Education, Practice, Research & Leadership
Speaker Deidre Woods-Walton, JD, MSN, RN-PHN, President and CEO, National Black Nurses Association, Inc. will present a lecture designed to promote discussion and dialogue about the driving forces for and barriers to creating diversity in the profession of nursing. The lecture will be in the Rosenberg Sky Room on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 12:30-2:30 p.m. Admission is free to the general public, $10 at the door for nurses pursuing continuing education credit and RSVP to the event is requested. Light the Way 2014 Workday
Light the Way 2014 is around the corner and UIW will host a workday session on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 5:30-8:30 p.m. in Marian Hall Ballroom in preparation of the dazzling event. UIW students are eligible to receive on-campus community service hours by updating and replacing Christmas light bulbs. Friends and family over the age of 10 are encouraged to attend; we also encourage faculty, staff and administrators to join in the fun. Free food and refreshments will be provided for volunteers!

8th Annual Research Week – Call for Submissions
Faculty, staff, and students of all levels and disciplines are encouraged to submit applications for Performing Arts Presentations,Podium Presentations,Poster Presentations, orVisual Arts Displays for the 8th Annual UIW Research Week, February 23 – 27, 2015. Submissions may describe either a completed project or a project in progress (must include preliminary results and analysis). Projects presented elsewhere over the last academic year are welcome. Submissions are due by November 15, 2014 at midnight. Last year's addition of podium and visual arts submissions was an overwhelming success and we hope to continue that momentum into this next year!
