At a press conference held Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Instituto Cultural de Mexico the Mexican Consulate presented a $60,000 check to UIW to fund scholarships for students of Mexican origin as part of the “IME Fellowship Program.” The Scholarship Program IME-BECAS was created in 2005 as an initiative of the Mexican Government to contribute to the development and personal improvement of Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. UIW will match the $60,000 IME-Becas award for the 2015 fiscal year funded making a total of $120,000 available to eligible students.

San Antonio International Piano Series Concert
The UIW Music Department invites you to come enjoy the classical piano performance of the 2012 San Antonio Piano Competition Bronze Winner, Yejin Noh on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Seddon Recital Hall. UIW Wind Ensemble Concert
The UIW Wind Ensemble will hold their first performance of the Spring 2015 semester on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Band/Orchestra Rehearsal Hall on the first floor of the newly constructed Music Building on campus. This will mark the first performance of the university's premier concert band under the baton of Dr. Brett A. Richardson, recently appointed Coordinator of Music Education and Director of Bands. Richardson comes to UIW from Indiana University where he completed the Doctor of Music degree in Wind Conducting.

Concert at the Cove
The UIW Cardinal Jazz Band will perform at the Cove Restaurant (606 W Cypress St, San Antonio, TX 78212) on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 8 – 10 p.m. and feature arrangements by Roger Hogan, the ensemble's lead tenor saxophonist. 8th Annual Research Week: Feb. 23 – 27

  • Podium Presentations: Join our faculty and student podium presenters from a broad spectrum of disciplines as they give a series of 20 minute presentations on the topic of their research. Podium presentations will be given on Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 12 – 5 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 26 from 12 – 4:15 p.m. in Marian Hall Ballroom.  A complete listing of presentations can be found online.  Light refreshments will be served.  Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend.  If you will only attend for part of the presentation session, please remember to be courteous and keep your entrance and exit quiet.
  • Formal Poster & Visual Arts Presentations: Join poster and visual arts presenters in celebrating the incredible diversity of our UIW community of scholars.  The formal poster and visual arts session will take place Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Marian Hall Ballroom.  A complete listing of presentations can be found online.  Our presenting faculty and students will be available at that time to discuss their work and engage questions.  Hors d'oeuvres will be served.  Faculty, staff, students, and guests are encouraged to attend.
  • Graduate & Professional Student Session:  Graduate and professional students are encouraged to join the Graduate Support Center and view posters, engage in conversation, and celebrate the work of their peers on Wednesday, Feb. 25 from 5:30 –7 p.m.  Faculty whose classes are scheduled to meet that evening are welcome to convene in the ballroom to view and discuss the posters with their classes as a community. Light dinner will be served.

Wolff Stadium Hosts Irish Alamo Invitational
Notre Dame will host a four-day baseball tournament at Wolff Stadium. UIW will play one game each day. On Sunday, Feb. 22, Sullivan Field will host a to-be-determined game at a to-be-determined time. Track and Field Spring Program Fundraiser

Bereavement Notice
TJ Williams, Feik School of Pharmacy (FSOP) administrative secretary to the dean and Cindy Norwood, FSOP secretary are mourning the loss of their mother, and Sara Gwathmey, FSOP secretary, the loss of her grandmother Mrs. Bonnie Sams.  Mrs. Sams was a native Texan who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Her husband was a military man, a teacher, a Federal employee, and an antique dealer.  Mrs. Sams was a "salt-of the-earth homemaker” who was his support and guide in all he did. On-Site Accreditation Visit for UIW
From Monday, Feb. 23 through Thursday, Feb. 26, 11 guests from our regional accreditors, SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) will be on main campus to reaffirm UIW's 10-year accreditation.  They will schedule interviews and visits with a wide variety of administrators, faculty, and staff; their private working space during the visit will be in the Mabee Library Special Collections Room.  Everyone is welcome to attend the exit conference to hear a summary of the team's findings, at 9 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, in Special Collections. Presidential Teaching Award Nominations 2015
The Provost's Office is requesting nominations for the Presidential Teaching Award. Nominations will be accepted through Saturday, Feb. 28. This annual award acknowledges and rewards a full-time faculty member who exemplifies excellence in teaching that leads to student engagement. A $5,000 stipend will be presented by Dr. Agnese to the award recipient who then becomes a member of the selection committee in succeeding years. UIW Campus Closures
On Saturday, March 7 – March 14, the bridge coming down the hill from Joeris Hall to the Grounds Shop will be closed due to construction. On Saturday, March 14 – there will be an electrical shutdown for 8 hours to the entire ICC building.  The outage should be from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Questions should be directed to facilities maintenance at (210) 829-6023.

Do you have a research or scholarly project, but just need a little time, money, or an extra hand? Faculty research award applications are now being accepted for the 2015-16 academic year. These awards include: 25% workload release for full-time faculty, up to $3,000 in financial support for research activities, and a two-semester graduate research assistantship. St. Anthony presents Denim & Diamonds Scholarship Gala
Enjoy a night of fun with the St. Anthony community! On Saturday, Feb. 21 St. Anthony presents its annual Denim & Diamonds Scholarship Gala.  Proceeds benefit students in need of tuition assistance.

The evening promises to be a fun filled night with food, music, and dancing along with auctions and raffles. Prizes for auction include jewelry, sports memorabilia, Spurs tickets and much more. A Grand Prize Raffle is being held during the evening with $5,000 for the winner and other cash prizes for other winners.
