2015 fall commencement


On Sunday, Dec. 6, UIW President Dr. Lou Agnese conferred degrees to nearly 1,000 professional, doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students making it the university's largest fall commencement to date. The 2015 Moody Professor, Dr. Elda Martinez, professor in the Dreeben School of Education, delivered the commencement address. 


Our Lady's Chapel Services

All are welcome.

University Worship Schedule
We will continue to have 12 p.m. weekday Masses in Our Lady's Chapel throughout the semester break, except when the university is closed. Only the Sunday 10:30 a.m. Mass continues throughout the holiday season. The Sunday Evening Masses at 8 p.m. will resume on Sunday, Jan. 17. For more info, contact Brenda Dimas at (210) 829-3128 or

Christmas Eve Mass

Advent and Christmas Masses
The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word invite you to join the community for this year's Advent and Christmas Masses. The date and times are listed below:

  • Evening Prayer for Advent – 6 p.m. prayer every Sunday of Advent (through Dec. 24) in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word
  • Christmas Novena – 4:15 p.m. daily through Thursday, Dec. 24 in St. Joseph's Chapel at the Village at Incarnate Word
  • Christmas Eve Mass – 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 24 in Our Lady's Chapel. Concert begins at 5 p.m.
  • Midnight Mass – Thursday, Dec. 24 in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word

TRiO Student Support Services was moved by how many in our community mobilized to support their annual service project. They are grateful to all for helping make this year's Cup Runneth Over a huge success. Your generous donations and carefully coordinated efforts have made this year's project one of the largest donations to SAMMinistries. Thank you, UIW family!

Bereavement Notice
Jessica Medina, campus visit coordinator, is mourning the loss of her grandmother, Guadalupe Castro, who passed away Saturday, Dec. 12. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 18 at Castillo Mission Funeral Home (520 N. General McMullen Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78228). Please keep Jessica and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

IRD December Maintenance
Information Resources Division will be conducting the scheduled December monthly maintenance Friday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 19 at 7 a.m.

MyWORD Portal Upgrade
Enterprise Applications has been working with the MyWord portal vendor, CampusEAI and their partner LookingGlass to upgrade the portal. Students and employees navigate to most of the university's third party software such as Blackboard Learn, CASHNet, Grades First and campus email through the MyWord portal. The new platform will introduce responsive themes and responsive page layouts that will enable users on mobile devices like tablets and smartphones to have a better user experience. Mission Circle Closing for Repairs
Mission Circle will be closed for repairs starting Monday, Dec. 28 through Sunday, Jan. 3.  Bad weather could delay the reopening of Mission Circle past Monday, Jan. 4.  Since this project will prevent driving access to the greater campus from the Burr Road entrance, the Hildebrand gate will remain open during the Mission Circle project. The Brackenridge Villa lots will only be accessible from the Hildebrand gate (and with a small section of Mission Circle open to allow a turn toward the Brackenridge Villa lots).  The Congregation's parking lot in front of the Generalate will be accessible from the Burr Road entrance. Incarnate Word High School Madrigal Alumnae Concert
The community is invited to join IWHS for the 2015 Madrigal Alumnae Concert, an annual Christmas tradition. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 22 in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.
