Events

Blueberry Toast
Barb and Walt have a perfect life, a perfect family, a perfect kitchen … but resentment simmers beneath the gleaming surface. Join the UIW community for a sometimes comic, sometimes touching and always disturbing peek at Barb and Walt's "perfect" life - where the toast isn't the only thing that gets sliced. Robert Ball directs Blueberry Toast with scenic design by Christopher McCollum, costume design by Margaret Mitchell, and lighting design by Melissa Gaspar. Adults: $10, Seniors: $9, Non-UIW Students: $8, Groups (10 or more): $6 and UIW Students, faculty and staff may attend free of charge by presenting their valid UIW ID. This production runs through Saturday, April 23 and again Thursday, April 28 - Saturday, April 30 in the Cheever Theatre. All show times begin at 9 p.m. This play contains vulgar language and extreme acts of simulated violence. No one under 17 years of age may attend. The Theophane Power Chair Presentation
The Theophane Power Chair Presentation by Dr. Stephanie Grote-Garcia will be presented at 6 p.m., Monday, April 25 in the Mabee Library Special Collections Room. Swing-In Auction Party and Golf Tournament
The Swing-In Auction Party is at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 28 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room and the Golf Tournament tee times are 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., Friday, April 29 at the Republic Golf Course. Swing-In is an annual event hosted by the UIW Development Board that raises funds for much needed scholarships. The theme for this year's auction party is Wild West; make sure to wear your hats and boots. Last year, our donors' generosity enabled us to raise a record-breaking total of nearly $400,000. Graduation Finale
The Office of the Registrar will distribute caps and gowns and will provide the instructions about the commencement ceremonies from 2 - 6 p.m., Monday, April 25 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. You may not participate in the Commencement ceremonies if you have a hold. If you cannot attend the Graduation Finale and will send someone in your place, you must provide written authorization to release your tickets. You must list them by name in your written authorization to us. You may download the form from the Graduation Finale link on the Registrar's Office web page and fax that form to the Registrar's Office. We will not have phones or fax at the Graduation Finale and cannot receive your authorizations there. Those picking up your tickets will need to provide a picture ID. To release your tickets, we must receive your written authorization in the Registrar's Office by Friday, April 22. 2016 dr. joleen beltrami

Dr. Joleen Beltrami, associate professor of mathematics, attended the Conference of Texas Statisticians with five UIW undergraduate statistics majors.This annual conference is in its 36th year and is held in cities across Texas. This year's conference was held at Trinity University. The students attended under a grant from the USDA/NIFA. UIW will host the conference in 2018. UIW Cardinals Football Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Receives 2016 Best of San Antonio Award
The San Antonio Award Program has selected UIW Cardinals Football Athletic Training/Sports Medicine for the 2016 Best of San Antonio Award in the Sports Teams category. Each year, the San Antonio Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the San Antonio area a great place to live, work and play. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2016 San Antonio Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the San Antonio Award Program and data provided by third parties.

New Services for the UIW Community
The University Police Department has not provided roadside assistant services to our community for several years. Seeing the need for these services, the university has contracted with a third party vendor to unlock car doors, provide a jump-start if needed, put air in a flat tire or change the tire if necessary.

To take advantage of this free service, UIW community members and visitors are asked to call (210) 829-6030. The dispatcher will need the following information:

  • Name
  • UIW ID# (with the exception of university visitors)
  • Make/Model of your vehicle
  • License Plate Number
  • Location of your car (Which UIW Campus and where on the campus)

The third party vendor has provided the following estimated response times for service:

New Blackboard Course Shell - Coming Summer 2016
The UIW Instructional Technology team is developing a new Blackboard course shell for the main campus courses. The shell will include pre-formatted content for hybrid, online, and face-to-face courses. Continuing through the end of April, Instructional Technology will be previewing the new course shell to faculty and staff providing an opportunity for both faculty input and training on how to integrate the shell with your Blackboard courses.
