Special Message from the Vice President of University Mission & Ministry: Mass of the Holy Spirit
The Mass of the Holy Spirit will take place at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Our Lady's Chapel. Our annual Mass invoking the grace of the Holy Spirit upon the University at the beginning of the new academic year follows the great tradition of doing so in Catholic universities since the Middle Ages.

Students, Faculty, Administrators and Staff gather as one body to pray for the Wisdom only God grants to the humble who seek guidance from above. The Mass of the Holy Spirit begins with the procession of symbols representing all schools within the University of the Incarnate Word and we will be welcomed to this liturgy by our new University President, Dr. Thomas Evans.

In this time of new beginnings, the academic year and new developments on campus and throughout the University, let us unite in prayer for the success of our educational efforts on behalf of our students and for the benefit of those our university community serves.

Word Wednesdays
The UIW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will host its first monthly Word Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, in front of the SEC. The SAAC will collect donations for Hurricane Harvey Relief. Donations accepted will be: monetary, toiletries and canned goods. The Saudi Student Club is hosting Eid al-Adha from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Student Engagement Center. This event will showcase Saudi Arabian culture. Shakespeare in Prague: Imagining the Bard in the Heart of Europe
The UIW Department of Art is proud to present Shakespeare in Prague: Imagining the Bard in the Heart of Europe. The Murder of Emmett Till with author Devery S. Anderson
CHASS is hosting a public lecture from 7 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Concert Hall with author and scholar Devery S. Anderson, author of Emmett Till: The Murder that Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement. The book, published in 2015 by the University of Mississippi Press, is the definitive account of the murder of 14-year old Emmett Till in Mississippi, an event that is often credited as the "beginning" of the 20th Century Civil Rights Movement. The Rosenberg School of Optometry faculty welcomed the Class of 2021 Friday, Aug. 25, at their orientation. The class received their lab coats, participated in an ice cream social and had a chance to have lunch with and meet faculty.

Ettling Center Reorganization
Dr. Barbara Aranda-Naranjo, associate provost for civic engagement, would like to announce the reorganization of the Ettling Center for Civic Engagement & Sustainability which will now include the Office of Sustainability. The reorganization is a result of the increased need to support, maintain and enhance sustainable efforts within and beyond the University community and the growth of civic and social justice engagement initiatives that support the Mission of the University. The Center will be led by Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez who has over fifteen years of higher education experience in outreach, intervention, and engagement programming and initiatives. Hurricane Harvey Relief Collection - UIW Pre-Pharmacy Association
The UIW Pre-Pharmacy Association (PPA) and the Ettling Center for Civic Engagement & Sustainability are partnering to help those in need following the hurricane. Bins labeled NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS and NON-FOOD ITEMS are located throughout campus for your donation. Collection will be accepted now through 12 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1. The PPA will be staging their station from 12 - 4 p.m. on the first floor of the SEC. Some of the collected items will be delivered this Saturday morning to Victoria and surrounding areas. The remainder will be donated to local organizations facilitating relief efforts. They are accepting:

UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine Seeks Volunteers for Candidate Interviews
The UIW School of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Admissions is looking for volunteers to assist with student applicant Candidate Interview Days. UIWSOM will conduct 16 fall and spring interview days from Sept. through March. This year's interviews will be held Friday afternoons (1:30 - 3:45 p.m.) and Saturday mornings (7:45 - 10 a.m.). Since the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) format is used, many interviewers are required to make each day a success. Training will be provided online and prior to each individual interview day for both new and returning interviewers.
