On Wednesday, Oct. 11, University of the Incarnate Word employees were recognized for their years of service to the university in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word, as part of the annual Heritage Day celebration. Sr. Martha Ann Kirk, a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, was recognized for her 45 years of service.

FASA 43rd Annual Juried Fiber Art Exhibit
The UIW Department of Art is hosting an opening reception for the Fiber Arts of San Antonio from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, in the Semmes & Student Galleries in the Kelso Art Center. The exhibition will run through Friday, Nov. 17. Fiber Arts of San Antonio's mission is to promote and advance fiber as an art form through exhibitions as well as education of its members and the general public. The Battered Women & Children's Shelter and The Kristine Meza Foundation's 5th Annual Purple Run
Title IX and Compliance has organized a team to participate in The Battered Women & Children's Shelter and The Kristine Meza Foundation's 5th Annual Purple Run at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It is a 5k designed for the entire family to run/walk/roll in honor of victims, survivors and all those who lost their lives to domestic violence. College & University Recycling Coalition Workshop
UIW is hosting the 2017 College & University Recycling Coalition Workshop starting at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 15, in the SEC Ballroom. Dr. Brian Roe of Ohio State University will talk about minimizing and managing food waste. Other presentations will focus on the economic impact of recycling, zero waste initiatives and trends in the recycling market. Regular admission is $125. Student admission is $60. Brown Bag Research Presentation Series - Pension Systems and Saving for Old Age in African Countries

Immigrants and Social Justice: A Theological Response
The Department of Religious Studies is hosting this discussion with Dr. Neomi DeAnda from 4:30 - 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Mabee Library Auditorium. DeAnda is the assistant professor of religious studies at the University of Dayton and will present a lecture on issues of social justice in light of the problems raised by recent immigration laws. This conversation will present the theological problems that these laws create and propose pastoral measures to promote justice and human dignity. Farhad's Film Series: Sugar Coated
The Mabee Library Presents Farhad's Film Series: Sugar Coated from 2 - 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Mabee Library, Room 221. The film overviews how the food industry seduced the world one spoonful at a time. This is an eye-opening feature documentary that examines the various tactics that have many health experts calling sugar the new tobacco. Arts & Music Festival
The Honors Program is back with its eighth annual Arts & Music Festival, a showcase of visual and performance art by the UIW community. The event is at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, in the Seddon Recital Hall. Come for the poetry slam, the sale of original art and jewelry and a variety of musical performances. The Choral Coffeehouse will offer homemade baked goods and beverages for sale. All events will be held on the first floor of the Bennack Music Center. All performances are free to all. Guest Artist Series
The UIW Department of Music is hosting this free event from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Seddon Recital Hall. The department invites guest artist Dr. Domonic Dousa, pianist and composer, to perform with vocalist Dr. Orit Amy Eylon, associate professor of music. Listen to a compilation of Dousa's work including "From A Child's Garden" "Dream Land" and "Elegy" and "Evocations from the Plains." President's Office Update
The President's Office is pleased to welcome Michael Larkin as Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President for Planning and Development. Larkin is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2017. His role will include integration and alignment of the campus master plan, university strategic plan, communications and marketing plan, and development campaign plans. Larkin holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and a master's degree in education, specializing in adult education and human resource development from Fordham University in New York. We thank Vince Rodriguez, who will end his term as Chief of Staff on October 31, 2017, for his years of dedicated service and wish him well.

We are also pleased to share with you the planned relocation of the President's Office to the third floor of the Student Engagement Center. Dr. Evans is excited to be closer to the students and employees. The SEC will also allow Dr. Evans to better showcase our picturesque campus and beautiful buildings to guests and stewards of the University. We will be sure to schedule an open house once we are settled.

Blackboard Service Interruption
To correct a UIW email relay issue Blackboard will be temporarily down beginning at 1 a.m., CDT, Sunday, Oct. 15. The repair is not expected to take more than 2 or 3 hours. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Fall 2017 DASH Training Sessions
The Office of Institutional Research has several DASH training opportunities this Fall 2017 semester in the Mabee Library, Room 230. These sessions are open to individuals who are interested in accessing DASH but haven't had DASH training. Even if you had DASH training in the past, these sessions will be helpful if you need a refresher on the basics. We will cover navigation, the functionalities of the system, as well as show you a report or two as examples of the kinds of information found in DASH.

Bereavement Notice - Clark
The Feik School of Pharmacy is remembering Mr. Roger Clark, who passed away early Monday morning, October 9, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. St. Anthony Catholic High School was recognized at the 2017 Women's Global Connection annual gala held Thursday, Oct. 13 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room for its role in funding two rainwater harvesting systems for women in Tanzania.
