UMM Angel Tree

University Mission Ministry is sponsoring an Angel Tree for UIW community members in need of assistance this Christmas. There are still many angels available. Please consider sponsoring a child or family of children for this holiday season. Groups may sponsor large families. The Angel Tree is located in the foyer leading to Our Lady's Chapel in the Administration Building. It will be displayed through Sunday, Dec. 10. Please bring items in a holiday bag with the original Angel tag to the University Mission & Ministry office (AD 147) before Friday, Dec. 15. Amahl and the Night Visitors
The Department of Music presents Amahl and the Night Visitors on Friday, Dec 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec 2, at 2 p.m., in the Fine Arts Concert Hall. UIW vocalists will perform the one-act opera about the shepherd boy, Amahl, who is visited by the Three Kings while traveling to see the newborn Christ. The event is free and open to the public. UIW Cardinal Jazz Band Concert
The UIW Cardinal Jazz Band, directed by Jim Waller, will perform it's only on-campus concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec 7 in the Concert Hall. Light the Way

The beautiful night sky provided the perfect backdrop for the illumination of the campus and a vibrant fireworks display at the University of the Incarnate Word's (UIW) 2017 Light the Way Festival sponsored by H-E-B. Over 9000 guests attended the event held Saturday, Nov. 18. The new festival atmosphere offered guests the traditional holiday show along with a Food Truck Yard, a Holiday Shoppe and a Kids' Corner where children took selfies with Santa and enjoyed a special visit from the Spurs Coyote. A highlight of the evening occurred as UIW President Dr. Thomas Evans, his wife Lisa and sons Walter and Leland flipped the switch illuminating the campus. 2017 Holiday River Parade

UIW was well represented at the 2017 Ford Holiday River Parade held Friday, Nov 24 by Red the Cardinal, members of the UIW Spirit Team, UIW twirler & Miss San Antonio Ashley Sneed and employee campaign winner Stella Mallard. The annual event is presented by the Paseo Del Rio Association. The UIW 2017 float theme was A Christmas Carol.

Cardinal Chorale Concert

The UIW Cardinal Chorale and Cardinal Singers directed by Professor of Music and Chair of the UIW Music Department William Gokelman presented their Fall Choir Concert, Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Concert Hall. The concert featured choral music, from African to jazzy, Bach to contemporary and songs that inspire peace.

Transfer Get-In Friday (TGIF)
UIW invites all transfer students interested in Main Campus to visit the Office of Admissions from 11 a.m., to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 15. Interested students will be given assistance in completing all the necessary steps for enrolling. You may sign up for a tour at 10am or 3pm along with your visit. This is a come and go event, no formal presentation will be given. The event will be held in the Office of Admissions. The deadline for moving UIW work files including Dropbox, My Documents, and personal files stored on the network) to your Office365 OneDrive is Dec. 20. To help with the transition the OneDrive League has added additional OneDrive training sessions throughout the month of November to help you make the transition.

Baseball camp
UIW Baseball will host two camps in December and another one in January where kids will get an opportunity to work on their skills in a positive environment. Full-time UIW employees will receive a $50 discount for the enrollment of your child in 1st- 8th grade. Just enter the code baseballuiw50 during the registration process to receive the discount. Cardinal Walk of Pride

Diversi-tea Ireland

The Campus Engagement office in collaboration with the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability and International Affairs presented their last Diversi-Tea of the semester featuring Ireland on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the Student Center Concourse. Pictured with Yesenia Caloca is UIW student Alanna O'Connor. The daily tradition of "Collation" of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word dates as far back as 1876.

 

HACU Award

UIW was selected as the 2017 HACU Solution Generation Climate Leadership Award. UIW accepted the award at the HACU Annual Conference on Oct. 30, in San Diego. The award carries a financial award of $10,000 which will be utilized to continue the sustainable efforts on campus and expand efforts at both San Antonio and Southwest ISD's. Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez, director of the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability accepted the award on the university's behalf.
