Mission & Ministry Reconciliation Service
As we approach the celebration of Holy Week and Easter, University Mission & Ministry invites the community to a prayerful celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation where you will have an opportunity to spend time in prayer and reflection as we open our hearts to God for reconciliation and healing. "A clean heart create for me, God; renew within me a steadfast spirit." (Psalm 51: 12) The Reconciliation Service will take place at 5 p.m., on Wednesday, March 7 in Our Lady's Chapel.
Sisters' Stories: Courage, Compassion, and Joy

University Mission and Ministry - Alternative Spring Break
University Mission & Ministry is hosting its 9th Annual Alternative Spring Break this March. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. daily from Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16 in the McDermott Convocation Center before going out into the community. The bus will depart from the Convocation Center at 8:30 a.m., and return to campus by 3 p.m. This year our efforts will be focused on painting houses and doing neighborhood clean-up around the Frank Garrett Community Center. The UIW Theatre presents the inspiring musical, GODSPELL from through March 3 in the Coates Theatre. Using a variety of games, storytelling techniques, and parables from the Gospel of Matthew, a group of students learn the importance of love, kindness and inclusion from a master teacher. It is a hummable, hand clapping, move-to-the-beat musical you won't want to miss. UIW Cardinal Singers
The UIW Cardinal Singers (chamber choir) will present a concert as part of the Chapel of the Incarnate Word Concert Series on Sunday, March 4 from 3 to 4 p.m. Musical selections will cover a broad range of styles, languages, and cultures, from rhythmic and fun to heartfelt and beautiful. UIW Health and Wellness Fair
The UIW Health and Wellness Fair will be held on Tuesday, March 6, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the Wellness Center. Over 30 vendors will be on site to promote health and administer basic biometric screening. There will be music and door prizes. The event is sponsored by UIW Health Services, the Employee Wellness Committee, Student Wellness Committee and Human Resources. Sr. Margaret Mary (Lucilla), CCVI Nursing Lecture
The Inaugural Sr. Margaret Mary (Lucilla), CCVI Nursing Lecture will take place on March 6, 2018, at 3:30 pm, at The Children's Hospital of San Antonio, Goldsbury Center for Children & Families Auditorium, 333 N. Santa Rosa Street. The lecture will be presented by Karen Weis, PhD, RNC-OB, FAAN on "Prenatal Maternal Identity Formation and the Relationship to Birth Outcomes." The lecture was endowed through a generous gift from Andrew, BSN '67, and Mary Ann Rankin. Sr. Lucilla's teachings positively impacted Andrew's nursing career The lecture is his way of honor Sr. Lucilla's memory for her contributions to the nursing profession of the many students' lives she touched. WGS Legacy Panel: The Mission Continues

In celebration of Women's History Month and National Catholic Sisters Week, this lecture will focus on what arguably was and still is the most controversial ministry Benedictine women religious performed during the Middle Ages: hearing the confessions of fellow community members and visiting laity and pronouncing absolution over them. Art of the Texas Sacred Springs
The UIW Department of Art and Headwaters at Incarnate Word present Art of the Texas Sacred Springs. The first of five sites in a pilgrimage honoring the springs of South Central Texas and Connecting People to nature through Art. An opening reception will take place on Friday, March 9 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Kelso Art Center. The exhibit will be on display through April 8. The Headwaters at Incarnate Word has partnered with a group of passionate professional artists to organize a month long art show celebrating the region's major springs with a special focus on our own Blue Hole, the source spring of the San Antonio River. The exhibit and accompanying events invite the public to experience these essential springs through various artistic mediums. UIW Community Garden Workday
The community is invited to join us for the UIW Community Garden Workday on Saturday, March 24 from 9 - 11 a.m. Come be a part of UIW's ongoing sustainability initiatives and the WORD IN ACTION celebrating President Evans' upcoming inauguration. Volunteers will have the opportunity to help beautify and prolong the life of the campus' Community Garden by helping stain current wood décor, prepare expanded garden beds for polluter plants and harvest current vegetation of food-based plants. There will be many fun and rejuvenating activities at this family friendly event. People of all ages are welcome to come out and be a part of the UIW family. Save the Date for the 2018 "Cutting Edge" Fashion Show set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 18 in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. This official Fiesta event displays the latest fashion created and presented by UIW Fashion design students. The collections include garments students have illustrated, designed and constructed in a year-long fashion capstone course. Each collection is centered on an individual theme ranging from a season, a color or market segment. From sound and lighting to staging and contracting professional models, UIW students experience every aspect of planning a professional runway show. A Message from VP Campus Life and Facilities Management Dr. David M. Jurenovich
As part of the University's Campus Master Planning initiative, we welcome the consulting group, Dober Lidsky Mathey back to our San Antonio sites beginning Monday, March 5. As has been shared prior,the Dober Lidsky Mathey team specializes in campus facility and space needs planning, having prepared 107 campus-plan studies for colleges and universities over the past 30 years.
Visiting our campus from Dober Lidsky Mathey, again, will be Art Lidsky and George Mathey. Join me in extending a warm Cardinal welcome to their team during their visit as they assess our many classrooms, labs, offices, etc. They will also be examining vehicular and pedestrian traffic and parking patterns, as well. For security and identification purposes each of the consultants will be wearing a visitor identification badge.
Finally, as our consultants study the campus facilities and areas, they will make every effort to not be disruptive to our day-to-day activities. Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Donate Used Glasses for Los Quijotes of San Antonio Health Ambassadors
Please consider donating used glasses that will be used for the 2018 Health Mission trip to the southern part of Mexico, focusing on serving the indigenous population of the state of Oaxaca. Our goal is to collect 100 glasses single vision or readers (no bifocals or progressives). Donations will be accepted through March 23.

Jonathan Lovejoy, Acting Dean for the School of Applied Sciences and Director of Military Initiatives, left, met with VADM Luke McCollum, a native Texan and current Chief of Navy Reserve Commander, during a military reception to honor our Navy Service Members during Navy Week Thursday, 22 February 2018 at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce offices. San Antonio was one of only 14 cities chosen to celebrate a Navy Week this year.
The Women's and Gender Studies program invited the community to a screening and roundtable discussion about Embrace, a documentary that discusses body image in the twenty-first century on Wednesday, on Feb 28 in the Seddon Recital Hall. After the documentary, there was a roundtable discussion with Dr. Emily Clark (English and Women's and Gender Studies), Dr. Ben Miele (English). Dr. Scott Dittloff (Political Science) and UIW student Elizabeth Hidalgo (Music and English).
The Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability presented Liturgical Outreach "War Is Never Just" by David Swanson on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in the Mabee Library Auditorium. Swanson is an author, activist, journalist, and radio host. He is director of WorldBeyondWar.org and campaign coordinator for RootsAction.org. He is also a 2015, 2016, 2017 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee.

RSO Faculty installed as TOA President
Dr. Jenny Terrell, Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry was installed as the President of the Texas Optometric Association on Saturday, February 24, 2018. She is the fifth woman to serve in this capacity and will work as the leader of Texas Optometry for the next year.
What Next? A Crucial Question in Improving Writing
Identifying what has gone well and what needs work promotes all kinds of learning, including the complex task of improving a piece of writing. The National Research Council endorses this process—called metacognition-- for its solid research base. Participants will learn to design and use "essay wrappers" and other tools that help students take a metacognitive look at their writing. HEBSBA Brown Bag Faculty Research Presentation Series

Co-author Dr. Tanja Stampfl, UIW English Department, and Dr. Rubio will present the paper at the International Journal of Arts and Sciences Conference in Toronto.

After experiencing three ways students might "talk in class"--discussion, debate, and dialogue—participants will discuss the traits of each. The session's participants will learn the rewards and challenges of promoting dialogue among diverse groups of students.

Study Abroad - International SOS Information Session
The Study Abroad Office will host International SOS representative, Tony Roop. International SOS provides medical, security and logistical expertise to help safeguard our international travelers. UIWPD Spring Break - Car Care Clinic
UIW Police Department will be hosting a free Car Care Clinic on Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8 from noon to 3 p.m., in front of the Kelso Art Center. Spring Break can be both an exciting and dangerous time. Let's work together and make it just a bit safer for our students. No one wants to have a break down in the middle of nowhere. We have been able to partner with Valvoline Instant Oil Change on Broadway to provide a basic vehicle safety inspection before the long road trip.
Mechanics will be checking the following areas:
- Tire Pressure - Air will be provided.
- Oil Condition - $10.00 Coupon towards oil change.
- Washer Fluid - Filled if needed.

Women's Global Connection Roshnic 2018 Fashion Show

The Visitation House Ministries 2018 Fiesta Medal is here. Supplies are limited. Medals can be purchased at the Women's Global Connection Offices located in the Brackenridge Villa, Lower Level, or at Visitation House, 945 W. Huisache, for a suggested donation of $10. The design presents the ministry logo of the Visitation, featuring Mary and Elizabeth. Proceeds benefit women and children who are experiencing Homelessness.
