UIW Recognized Among Best in Nation
The University of the Incarnate Word has once again been ranked high in the nation when it comes to Best Online Bachelor’s Programs by U.S. News and World Report. In the publication’s 2020 rankings of 1,200 online programs, UIW ranked No. 52 and was rated higher when it comes to Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans, ranking No. 34. U.S. News based its rankings on four categories: Engagement, Services and Technology, Faculty Credentials and Expert Opinion.
“It is always great to be recognized by a publication such as U.S. News and World Report,” says Vince Porter, dean of School of Professional Studies. “We are very proud of the faculty and staff and the hard work they do. This is also really a reflection of the dedication of our students and the success they go on to have after graduating from our online programs.”
UIW also ranked among the top 200 in Online Business Non-MBA (No. 92) and Online Business MBA (No. 185).
In addition, UIW has been recognized for its MBA program, graduate school programs, and its effort to help students finish college by the website Abound.College. Austin-based Abound is a national college guidance system for degree-seeking adults. Its goal is to help students find the best place to earn an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, nursing degree or MBA.
Abound’s top programs meet several criteria in each of four main areas: Accessibility, Affordability, Acceleration, and Advancement. Each school is evaluated through a key analysis of transfer-credit assessment data, career and support services, overall accessibility of campus resources, the breadth of engaged learning opportunities, and more. UIW, as with all institutions on the Abound website, was invited to join the cohort only after an exhaustive interview with the Abound team as well as a rigorous review of student satisfaction and success.

Pray-a-thon 2020
As we approach the season of Lent, we invite you to Save the Date for Pray-a-thon 2020, set for March 22 – 29. Pray-a-thon is an invitation for our Brainpower schools and our UIW campus communities to join in solidarity, drawing on a shared vision of faith and learning, to work together as One Word. While some events will find a place in our chapels, a hallmark of Pray-a-thon has been to take prayer to the people in unique and creative ways. We pray that each of you will enjoy a week filled with opportunities to experience prayer in different forms, expressions and traditions. Cardinal Couples Mass
Did you and your significant other meet at UIW? Come back to our beautiful campus to receive a special blessing from Fr. Tom Dymowski. The annual Cardinal Couples Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 in Our Lady's Chapel.

Women's Global Connection: Girls Global Summit
Women’s Global Connection is celebrating its 8th Annual Girls Global Summit from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb.15 in the UIW McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. This event offers impactful and thoughtful cross-cultural engagement led by middle and high school girls from across the San Antonio metropolitan area. Exploring themes that resonate with our Girl Groups, conference attendees will engage in several round-table discussions and participate in leadership development exercises designed to embolden and inspire summit guests. MLK March
On Monday, Jan. 20, members of the UIW community gathered to participate in the annual MLK March. Students, faculty and staff came together to represent UIW at the march, where they were joined by thousands of San Antonians marching to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and the ongoing fight for civil rights. SA2020 Impact Luncheon
This week, UIW community members participated in the SA2020 Impact Luncheon and considered how UIW can be actively involved in community empowerment. Nightfall
On Friday, Jan. 17, the UIW Department of Art hosted an opening reception for Nightfall, a collection by Joe Pena. The artist’s work explores issues of ethnic identity, including aspects of cultural, familial and social traditions, relating to his Mexican heritage. The subject matter, portrayed through various elements of still life, portraiture, and urban landscapes are a further reference and exploration into personal narratives as well as traditional and contemporary Mexican customs. His work has been featured in numerous print and online publications including Chicanitas: Small Paintings from the Cheech Marin Collection, Los Tejanos: Chicano Art from the Collection of Cheech Marin, Guitar Aficionado, Texas Monthly, The Austin American Statesman, ArtScope New England, and Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education. Selected collections include the Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi, TX; the Cheech Marin Collection of Art, Los Angeles, CA; and La Universidad de Oaxaca, Oaxaca City, Méx.

Enrollment Services On Campus Filming
The Enrollment Services Communications team will be working with YouVisit, a virtual tour and map provider, to create a virtual tour feature for our website. The YouVisit team will be on campus from Tuesday, Jan. 28 through Thursday, Jan. 30 to film multiple areas around campus. We encourage the UIW community to show off their Cardinal pride by wearing Cardinal gear during these dates!

Flu Shots Now Available!
Employee flu shots are now available at the UIW Health Services Clinic. To receive your flu shot, please visit the UIW Health Services Clinic located on the ground level of the Agnese Sosa parking garage. The entrance to the facility located behind the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions.
When can I go? Employee Flu Shots are still available. Employee flu shots will be administered between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, Monday through Friday. Please stop by at your convenience.
What will I need to bring? Medical Insurance ID, Driver License or University ID, and, if this is your first visit to Health Services, a completed New Patient Form.
What if I do not have UIW medical insurance? If you have other medical insurance, the clinic will bill your insurance. If you do not have medical insurance and are a full time UIW employee, you can still get your flu shot at Health Services and UIW will cover the cost.
What if I cannot make it to Health Services? You can also go to a participating pharmacy such as CVS, Walgreens, HEB, or your physician’s office.
Can my spouse or child get their flu shot at Health Services? At this time only UIW employees can receive their flu shot from Health Services.
While timing of the flu season is unpredictable, seasonal flu activity often begins to increase in October. It is common for the flu season to peak between December and February, but it may last as late as May. CDC recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine by the end of October. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body to protect against flu virus infection.
