CCVI Jubilee - Celebrating 150 Years

We invite you to celebrate 150 years of blessings at the following events:

  • November 1, 2019
    8:30 am — Morning Prayer, Chapel of the Incarnate Word, followed by an unveiling of a “150” commemorative plaque in the Incarnate Word Cemetery, honoring our deceased Sisters.
    6:00 pm — Eucharist in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word honoring our “great cloud of witnesses” (deceased Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word).
  • November 3, 2019
    3:00 pm — Concert by “Chanticleer” all-male vocal ensemble — Chapel of the Incarnate Word.
  • November 23, 2019
    3:00 pm — Celebrate the annual “Light the Way” with the University of the Incarnate Word.
  • December 3, 2019
    6:00 pm — Eucharist celebrated with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, remembering the first Mass celebrated at Santa Rosa Infirmary on this day in 1869 — Chapel of the Incarnate Word.

Celebrate the CCVI Jubilee and support their ministries by purchasing their 2019 medal. Medals may be purchased all year at the CCVI International Support Office (The Generalate - 4503 Broadway) or in Sr. Kathleen Coughlin's (SEC 2053).

Dean of the School of Professional Studies, Vincent Porter, and his wife, Vice President for Enrollment Services, Dr. Cyndi Porter, are mourning the loss of his mother, Phyllis Porter. Mrs. Porter passed away at the age of 89 on Wednesday, July 24. Please keep the Porter family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. On Saturday, July 27, UIW will kick off the 2019 Mozart Festival. Saturday concerts will be held at 8 p.m., and Sunday concerts will be held at 3 p.m. in the UIW Concert Hall. View the Mozart Festival website for ticket information and a list of performers.

Congratulations, Bishop Trevor Alexander! 

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Trevor Alexander on his recent elevation to Bishop by the Kingdom Council of Interdependent Christian Churches and Ministries. Bishop Alexander's elevation was celebrated at a special reception on Friday, June 28.

Sacred Choral Music in Spanish/Música Sacra Coral en Español

The UIW Cardinal Singers presented a concert of sacred choral music in Spanish on Sunday, July 14 in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word. The concert was a prelude to their performance later in the week at the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) convention. The Singers were been invited to present this concert to a national audience of liturgical musicians who gathered for the annual NPM convention, this year held in Raleigh, NC.

A Better Future for Immigrants, Starting with Help for an Immigrant Now

On Friday, July 19 members of the UIW community learned from the courage and determination of Edgar Navarrete, an immigrant who has been working with the Equal Justice Center assisting immigrant youth across Texas. He has been accepted by St. Mary’s University School of Law and has plans to assist immigrants. As a DREAMER, he shared wisdom on how we can work together for a more just and humane future.

Human Resources hosted the quarterly New Employee Mixer/Luncheon on July 25, 2019, where new employees had an opportunity to meet fellow co-workers, increase their knowledge of the University, and enjoyed lunch with UIW President, Dr. Thomas Evans and other members of Executive Leadership. Aramark Check Presentation

MiniGEMS Visit

UIW President, Dr. Thomas Evans, and UIW Interim Provost, Dr. Barbara Aranda-Naranjo, paid a visit to the middle school girls participating in this year's miniGEMS program! They offered words of encouragement and advice, and learned about what the girls have accomplished at the camp thus far. miniGEMS ( Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science) is a free two-week engineering camp for middle school girls to introduce them to the field of engineering through robotic projects, competitions, guest speakers and field trips. Now in its fifth year, the program has grown into four two-week camps that focus on everything from computer coding to the science of food preparation.

Cardinal Apps

Cardinal Apps” is coming! By Fall 2019, Cardinal Apps will replace MyWord portal. Cardinal Apps will be the go-to place for the software applications you use every day, including Banner. Accessible on the faculty, staff, and student community websites, Cardinal Apps enhances information security and best of all, brings modern features and easier password recovery techniques to all community members. Over the next few weeks, you will see more and more software apps move from MyWord to Cardinal Apps.

Be Aware: The first time you login to Cardinal Apps, you will need to enter a secondary (non-UIW) email address, security question, and a cell phone number. This will ensure that you are able to reset or recover your password at any time.

Resident Move-In

The Department of Residence Life and Housing Operations is calling for volunteers to assist our 1,000 students who will be moving onto campus for the 2019-2020 school year on August 22 and 23! We are looking for faculty and staff to be welcoming faces, help push bins, direct traffic, and provide the UIW experience! Departments are encouraged to volunteer together. Volunteers are needed for two shifts each day. The morning shift will be from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.,  and the afternoon shift from 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
