The guest speaker was Yale University's Dean and Linda Koch Lorimer Professor of Nursing Dr. Ann Kurth. Hangul Day
Join the Office of International Affairs, UIW exchange students and former study abroad students from South Korea in celebrating an early Hangul Day with food, music, giveaways and a photo booth. The event is from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, in front of the SEC. Hangul, created by Sejong the Great was a step to literacy and cultural identity in Korea. Feast of St. Francis of Assisi Blessing of the Animals and Prayer for Creation

Hoops for Harvey
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting Hoops for Harvey at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the McDermott Center. Hoops for Harvey is a basketball knockout tournament. There is a $3 donation charge to take part in the fun. SAAC welcomes everyone to come and participate at the event. All of the donations will be given to Hurricane Harvey Relief. Dining in the Dark
The Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and American Optometric Student Association present Dining in the Dark at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, at the Rosenberg School of Optometry (9725 Datapoint Dr., 78229). Dining in the Dark is a unique sensory awareness experience that gives guests a first-hand glimpse into the lives of those who are completely blind, taking them on a journey into the dark. Light the Way Display Board Contest
Kick off the Light the Way season with other student groups from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, on the seventh floor of the Ancira Parking Garage. All approved student organizations are invited to participate in this annual tradition to paint a board that will be displayed throughout campus during the holidays. Register here. The Sexual Politics of Meat
Women's and Gender Studies presents nationally renowned eco-feminist Carol Adams at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the SEC Ballroom. The presentation provides an eco-feminist analysis of the interconnected oppressions of sexism, racism and speciesism by exploring the way popular culture draws on dominant Western philosophical viewpoints regarding race, gender, and species that further objectification. FASA 43rd Annual Juried Fiber Art Exhibit
The UIW Department of Art is hosting an opening reception for the Fiber Arts of San Antonio from 6 - 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, in the Semmes & Student Galleries in the Kelso Art Center. The exhibition will run through Friday, Nov. 17. Fiber Arts of San Antonio's mission is to promote and advance fiber as an art form through exhibitions as well as education of its members and the general public. The Battered Women & Children's Shelter and The Kristine Meza Foundation's 5th Annual Purple Run
Title IX and Compliance has organized a team to participate in The Battered Women & Children's Shelter and The Kristine Meza Foundation's 5th Annual Purple Run at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It is a 5k designed for the entire family to run/walk/roll in honor of victims, survivors and all those who lost their lives to domestic violence. The Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) hosted an opening reception for their art show Creating Balance Saturday, Sept. 23. UIW Print Services Update
The Department of Instructional Technology and the UIW Print Services have collaborated to transfer large format printing services to the Print Shop in the Administration Building. Starting Monday, Oct. 2, all large format printing requests (including posters and banners) should be directed to Mike Hood who can be reached at hood@uiwtx.edu. The graphic art staff in Print Services will be able to design and print any academic work such as those used in poster sessions at conferences and for Research Day. At first, some print requests may have to be sent out while renovations are being made in the Administration Building to house the large format printer. For info, contact (210) 829-3957.

Fall 2017 DASH Training Sessions
The Office of Institutional Research has several DASH training opportunities this Fall 2017 semester in the Mabee Library, Room 230. These sessions are open to individuals who are interested in accessing DASH but haven't had DASH training. Even if you had DASH training in the past, these sessions will be helpful if you need a refresher on the basics. We will cover navigation, the functionalities of the system, as well as show you a report or two as examples of the kinds of information found in DASH.

A Parking Notice from the Vice President for Business & Finance, Mr. Douglas Endsley
In advance of the upcoming football game this weekend:

Any Faculty/Students coming to the game this weekend who have already purchased a campus parking pass for the year will receive free parking, but will need to park in one of the on-site parking garages. Your pass will not allow you to park in any of the lots next to Benson Stadium.

Anyone coming to campus on Saturday for an event not related to the game will receive free parking, but we ask that you enter Campus off of Burr Road and park in the lots between Broadway and the river. There will be cash takers on that side, but you'll need to mention that you are here for an unrelated event and the parking staff will allow you access to park.

By Friday night, please have your car moved from the shaded areas on the attached map. These areas are needed for Tailgate, Cardinal Club and Season Ticket Holder Parking. If cars remain, your car may be towed and you will be responsible for any costs incurred.

The Office of Communications and Marketing has revised and updated the UIW Style Guide, which is located here. Please review and use this guide for general University writing, web, graphic and editorial standards. A new addition to this style guide is the social media style guide, which is located here. These social media guidelines are meant to increase the maximum efficacy of UIW's social media accounts and encourage a universal voice and style across different platforms.
