In addition to WLC tutoring, students also have access to Smarthinking. Smarthinking offers 24/7 online support in several subject areas, including writing.

The WLC will support you at any stage of the writing process.

The purpose of writing consultations is to help you become a better writer. Because writing is such an essential skill for you to develop, tutors will not copyedit or "fix" your papers for you. They will help you identify error patterns and guide you in thinking more deeply and critically about your subject matter.

Writing consultations typically last for thirty minutes to one hour. You are welcome to schedule up to two appointments ahead of time. If you find that you need further assistance, we will gladly help you set additional appointments.

If you need to cancel an appointment, we ask that you give us at least 2 hours' notice so that we may accommodate waiting students. Also, please inform us if you're running late. If we haven't heard from you within 15 minutes of your session start time, we may open the session to other students. Sessions canceled or rescheduled without 2 hours' notice will be counted as a no-show. After 5 no-shows (including sessions with Tutoring Services), you will not be able to make appointments for the remainder of the semester. You will be able to participate in drop-in tutoring as available.
