Information About Holds

 What is a Hold?

A hold is an indicator that action is needed. The university may place a hold on your record for academic, financial and/or informational purposes.

 How Can a Hold Affect Me?

Holds help you to understand what is needed to remain in good standing with various offices or services. They tell you what office you need to connect with and what action needs to be completed. Some holds will prevent you from registering or receiving a transcript.

Please Note: A hold will not prevent you from seeing your Primary Advisor.  Be sure to connect with them during advising time.

How Do I Clear My Holds? 

If you notice that you have a hold (or holds), it is important to contact the office that added the hold to your record. They need you to connect and resolve an outstanding item in order to clear your hold.

Registration PIN Information

What is a Registration (Alt.) PIN?

The Registration Alternative PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a unique, six-digit code required to register for courses in Banner Web.

Its primary purpose is to confirm you have completed your mandatory academic advising session and are approved to register for the upcoming semester. This PIN acts as an electronic signature, ensuring you are on track with your degree plan.

When and How Do I Receive My PIN?

Your Primary Academic Advisor will provide your PIN to you during your scheduled, mandatory advising appointment.  The advising appointment is required for all current students and involves:

• Reviewing your academic progress and degree audit.
• Discussing course options for the upcoming semester.
• Developing a successful registration plan.

Scheduling Your Mandatory Advising Appointment

1. Watch Your Email
   Your Primary Advisor will contact you via your UIW email at the start of the official advising period to initiate scheduling. Please check your university email regularly and respond promptly to secure your appointment time.
   
2. Take Action If Needed
   If you have not received communication from your advisor within the first week of the advising period, please contact your Primary Advisor directly to schedule your session and secure your PIN. Do not delay—failing to schedule your appointment will prevent you from registering when your time ticket opens.

3. Click View Registration Information
4. Select the term you want to view
5. Click on the Printer Icon 
6. Click on “Save to PDF” and “Save” or send to print and click “Print”

We understand that your academic interests may evolve. Many students discover new passions and adjust their academic plans. This information will guide you through the process of an academic change, ensuring a smooth transition to your new field of study.

Steps for an Academic Change

1. Explore Your Academic Interests:
   • Research different programs/majors available at UIW. Review the undergraduate university catalog, explore our academic programs & department websites, and consider speaking with faculty in your areas of interest.
   • Connect with Career Services to help you discover programs that align with your interests and career goals.
2. Schedule an Advising Appointment:
   • Email and schedule an appointment with the program UAC Advisor. They can help you review and discuss your options, review your academic record, and help you understand how a major change might affect your graduation timeline.
3. Complete the Major Change Form:
   • After your advising appointment, if you wish to change your program, your UAC Advisor will help you navigate through the process to make your change official. 
   • You will receive confirmation once your major change has been processed.

Important Considerations:

• Impact on Graduation: Changing your program may affect your graduation timeline. Your UAC Advisor can help you assess the potential impact and develop a plan to stay on track.
• Financial Aid and Specialized Funding: Be sure to consult with the Office of Financial Aid, Military Affairs, and Athletics (if applicable) to understand how a major change might affect your financial aid, military benefits, or athletic scholarships.
• Deadlines: Be aware of any deadlines for changing your major. These deadlines may vary depending on the semester. Major Mania Week is the best time to make academic changes.
