UIW Residence Life and Housing Operations creates a safe and inclusive community, provides supportive services, and cultivates holistic growth through the UIW Mission.
We strive to promote a safe, comfortable, and inviting community. All students are expected to exercise self-discipline, social maturity, and respect for public and private property. It is up to you to help enforce this expectation for all residents.
Our philosophy -- in all that we do, we have the student’s best interest in mind. It’s the call to make a difference. If you see something, say something! We embody this by:
The Cardinal Corner is a monthly newsletter from our office to residential students that include: upcoming events, student spotlights, and a variety of other information.
Every student at UIW has a unique background and perspective. It's crucial that our residents develop the skills to hold both care-free and uncomfortable conversations with others as part of their holistic development.
To help facilitate this process, our Resident Assistants (RAs) meet with suitemates within the first two weeks of school to establish an agreement amongst all parties about the responsibilities and boundaries for everyone in the room. This process helps knock out the expectations up front, with a non-bias third party leading the discussion.
When suitemates have disagreements, our RAs serve as trained mediators with experience helping roommates come up with solutions to their concerns. This process is referred to as a roommate mediation and we consider it paramount to the learning process and the development of conflict management skills.
