What is Turnitin?
Turnitin is the top-rated plagiarism checker that's integrated into Canvas. At your instructors behest, submitted documents are subject to be scanned for similarity to other sources, and correct citations, providing an originality report to the instructor that might lead to uncovering academic dishonesty.
Where to find Turnitin
Microsoft Word (Online only)
Turnitin also offers a tool called 'Turnitin Draft Coach' which can be found as an add-on within the online version of Microsoft Word (See image below). This tool highlights grammar mistakes, checks for similarity, improves citations, and provides explanations to help students edit and deepen their understandings of what they're writing. Every document has a limit of three uses, so it's recommended to use the tool wisely prior to submitting an assignment.
Canvas
For a brief explanation of the Similarity Report created when a student submits an assignment, view this overview video. Please note, your assignment placement and names will differ from those used in the video.
