How to access Microsoft OneDrive

If you have a UIW-issued Windows device, OneDrive should already be installed. If not, or you wish to install OneDrive on a personal device, follow the direction below.

Online (Cardinal Apps)

Being the easiest to access and use, the web version of OneDrive allows users to upload and share files from any device running a web-browser with an internet connection.

• Head to Cardinal Apps and click on the ' OneDrive' tile found under the 'Office 365 apps' or the 'Popular apps' tab.

Desktop (Local app)

OneDrive is available for both Windows and macOS devices and comes pre-installed on all UIW-issued devices. If it is not installed, or you'd like to use OneDrive locally on your personal computing device, use the link below to get started.

What is Microsoft Outlook?

Microsoft Outlook is the employee mail application that all UIW faculty and staff are assigned upon enrollment and serves as the center of the academic life at UIW. All employee @uiwtx.edu email addresses are Outlook addresses.

How to access Microsoft Outlook

Outlook can be accessed anywhere that allows for an Outlook.com email address to be added or viewed and is generally the same experience from any device. While you can add your UIW email address to most email apps, the following methods are recommended as they use the dedicated Outlook app which offers a superior and more integrated experience.

Classic Stream Notice

The following information discusses the New Stream experience found in OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams. Microsoft is retiring the current iteration of Stream (called Classic Stream) within the coming year. After August 1, 2023 you will no longer be able to upload content to Classic Stream and on Jan 1, 2024 the portal will be closed entirely.

What is Microsoft Stream?

Microsoft Stream is a video player built-into the Microsoft ecosystem, commonly denoted by it's pink color schema and rich-feature set. All videos upload into OneDrive or shared within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem (such as SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, etc.) will play in the Stream video player and benefit from a bevy of features and conveniences for viewers.

• Create sharing links for internal and external video sharing
• Embed videos for intra-organizational viewing
• Tag others in video comments to start a conversation
• Chapter creation for video content
• Create your own video description area with a Rich Content Editor.
  • #tags can be added in the 'About Video' section on a video to allow users to search a shared folder, group site, or the (New) Stream web app for specific tagged content.
• Automatically create, view, edit, and manage video transcripts and closed captions
• Video playback speed options
• Detailed analytics with retention curves, unique viewiers, and total views on all videos
• Add custom thumbnails to videos
• Enable 'Noise suppression' for a video to eliminate background noise in the audio
• Create and share video playlists
• Noise removal switch for uploaded and existing content

How to use Microsoft Stream with video content

Simply upload a supported video file to your OneDrive, SharePoint, or Teams site and your video will have all the benefits that Stream brings. Additionally, Stream offers a recording tool that can record your screen, microphone, and desktop.

Microsoft Teams (aka Teams) is an all-in-one workspace for real-time collaboration, communication, meetings, file and app sharing, and more. What is Microsoft Access?

Access is a database management tool for creating business applications, from templates or from scratch. With its rich and intuitive design tools, Access can help you create appealing and highly functional applications in a minimal amount of time and analyze vast amounts of information efficiently.

What is Microsoft Bookings?

Microsoft Bookings (aka Bookings) is an online scheduling tool that integrates with your other Microsoft products and your personal calendar. UIW personnel can use Bookings to share a single link that allows students or colleagues (internally and externally) to book appointments based on the services and availability you offer.

Where to find Microsoft Bookings

Bookings is only available online through a web-browser, as there are no downloadable or mobile versions available.

What is Microsoft Forms

Forms is With Microsoft Forms, you can create surveys, quizzes, and polls, invite others to respond to it using almost any web browser or mobile device, see real-time results as they're submitted, use built-in analytics to evaluate responses, and export results to Excel for additional analysis or grading.

What is Microsoft Planner?

Microsoft Planner is a lightweight project management tool, allowing teams to work together and have full visibility on the progress of tasks, workloads and deadlines.

Similar to independent project management offerings such as Trello, Microsoft Planner is a board-based task list for an entire team. As it falls under the main Microsoft 365 suite of apps and services, this tool easily integrates with Outlook, Teams and OneNote.

Power Automate is a self-directed service that helps you create automated workflow's between your favorite apps and services to synchronize files, get notifications, collect data, and more. Microsoft Power BI (Business Intelligence) is a self-service platform that provides non-technical users with tools for analyzing, aggregating, visualizing, and sharing data. With an interface similar to Microsoft Excel, BI offers more robust tools like AI, data insights, and integration into other Microsoft 365 apps and services.
