Undergraduate Int'l Advising Handbook

If you are working towards a degree at UIW or are here as an exchange student, the Student Success Department will endeavor to provide you with a rewarding experience. Advising is key to your success--so please read this handbook carefully. You will find important guidelines to assist you with as well as information on resources and offices that are dedicated to your success.

The Writing & Learning Center

The WLC will support you at any stage of the writing process. You may drop in during tutoring hours or if you prefer, make an appointment to reserve a tutor or if you have specialized questions (about a particular format or about writing for a specific discipline, for example), We also host workshops to address specific writing issues and to give you the opportunity to work with experienced writers to fine-tune your skills. Our workshops are interactive, providing you with a safe space to practice and get feedback without receiving a grade that will impact your GPA.

Tutoring Services & PASS UIW Program

Individual and group sessions to help you succeed in business, science, languages, history and other humanities courses. NOTE: For mathematics go to the Math Lab located in BSH 222. The lab is open Monday to Thursday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Friday 7:00 to 11:00am.

Testing Services

A variety of exams to help you stay caught up with your classes or get ahead.

University Advising Center

At the University Advising Center (UAC), our goal is to help you get the most from your UIW education. UAC academic counselors can help you create your path to graduation and teach you all about the UIW resources that will help make your journey a more successful one.

Career Services and Professional Development

The Office of Professional Development & Career Services is committed to providing career counseling and education to students in all UIW programs and alumni.

Counseling Services

Counseling services are available to you, the students of the University of the Incarnate Word on an appointment basis. The ever challenging demands of growth, change, and the expanding horizons of learning are at times stressful, and often require an adjustment of attitudes and coping skills.

Honors Program

The University of the Incarnate Word Honors Program offers an enhanced educational experience to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement and promise.

New Student Programs

The Office of New Student Programs is a Title V funded program dedicated to promoting the success of first-year students by enhancing student engagement. We are available to assist students in order that they may find the answers to questions that will lead to their academic success. First-year students learn to understand that "you own your education," which introduces self responsibility and an awareness of the path to success!

TRiO

Student Support Services (SSS) - TRiO - Student Support Services (SSS) at the University of the Incarnate Word is a federally funded TRiO program. The UIW Student Support Services program will provide academic support, leadership development, and educational support services to students who meet first generation, low income, and/or disability criteria, as defined by federal guidelines. The Student Support Services program will create a supportive, educational atmosphere to actively promote retention and graduation for participants.
